September 17 - Spring Into Shape 1
I completely misjudged the weather, possibly due to my brain still being a bit fogged over from a very large Friday night at a friend's wedding!So packing my gear the night prior, after the runner's meal of champions (KFC), I packed a thickish running tee in black. I was already regretting that decision on the walk to the start as the sun was shining and it was a fair bit warmer than anticipated.
Completed my short warm up run where I ran into Old Miler and Sal for a quick hello, and then off to the start line.
Lost about 45 seconds right near the start helping a lady who had come a cropper about 5m in front of me. I felt okay in the body through the first section of the course, and at the halfway point I went through in just over 18 minutes which was my goal. I began to struggle a little from here, with a lack of fluid and the heat kicking in. I couldn't maintain that pace due to a pretty poor lead up, and completed the final 4 kms in 19minutes. I also didn't take into account the 45 seconds lost in the first 4km, which had me going out much quicker than I wanted.
So all in all a gun time 37m22secs, however taking off the 45sec stop a time of 36mins 37secs.
Even my gun time was a PB by 14 secs.
Now aiming for a sub 36 minute at the next event!
