July 12 - Long Run

Tonight I decided to get in a longish run as I am unsure of if I will get out at all this weekend. So I elongated the route home from work, this time heading up to Livingstone Street and along to Grange Road, then heading south across Heidelberg Road to the Chandler Highway and then down the tairs to the banks of the Yarra.

I followed the Yarra Trail all the way to Studley Park Boathouse, where I came back out onto Yarra Boulevard, and followed the road to Walmer Street. Then it was south again, across the Yarra, and down Burnley Street. Then I cut through the streets of Richmond, heading along Balmain Street to the train lines, over the Yarra again on the rail bridge, and finally up Darling Street hill.

I felt pretty good the whole way, and raesonably strong in the second half of the run. All up it was 16km which I completed in a leisurely 90 minutes at around 5.40 pace

My plan is to tackle a marathon in April/May 2007, which one I haven't actually settled on yet, I will work that out later this year. So in the meantime I need to increase my mileage and long run initially, and then add some hill/speed work late in 2006.

Ideally I will get 2 half marathons under my belt before the end of 2006, and a few shorter races for speed. This will all begin to take effect from mid August once the house move has been completed.
