July 17 - Planning....

Today I did my usual 13km run from Ivanhoe to South Yarra. Most of this run was alongside Merri Creek and the Yarra, with a cut through Richmond to finish.

All in all I completed the run in 72 minutes at an average pace of 5.33.

So rather than do a blow by blow description of the run, I thought I would outline in greater detail exactly what my plans are for running in the short and longer terms.

Up until mid-August when we move into our new apartment, I intend on continuing with the 3-4 runs per week ranging from 13-20km. I just want to get the miles in my legs without having to commit to a structured program as time is a problem at the moment.

Once we have moved then I will begin to add a speedwork session, most likely on a Tuesday night with Tim's group, to really begin to prepare me for racing. I will then be doing three runs, two of the 12-13km length, and extending the third run to about 26km, and the speedwork session per week.

I will race a couple of halfs between now and the end of the year, and also some 10km races to work on my speed as well. I haven't pegged exactly which halfs I will do, but I am thinking the Sri Chinmoy at Burnley and possibly the Knox Masters in December.

Then after getting advice from a couple of people I greatly respect, it looks like the Canberra Marathon will be the most likely, with Williamstown as my fall back position if I have any problems.

I look forward to running with quite a few of you in the lead up to these runs, and might even race with a couple of you in Canberra!
