June 6 - Ivanhoe to South Yarra ..and thanks!

First of all I'd like to thank everyone who leaves comments on my blog. It's great to know that people actually read about my running, and the support, advice and encouragement is greatly appreciated. Being a novice blogger, to reply to comments am I supposed to note things in my next entry or reply in the comments section?

Some help with this important piece of 'blog-etiquette' would be great.

Anyway tonight was run 2 on my plan to build up my speed and endurance for a crack at a half marathon coming up, most likely the Coburg Half on July 30th. So I decided that since I didn't want to do any speed work due to my hamstring, I'd have a crack at a decent hill. That meant running home via Kew.

So I started out heading down Heidelberg Rd and then turning south at Chandler Highway. I followed this until I came to Princess Street, and turned straight up the hill. While it's not overly steep, it does go up a long way, so is a good work out.

The legs were a little tired tonight, as they always are on the second run after any sort of break, so the hill was a tester. I made it to the top with no real problems, and from there it was a fairly cruisey type of run. I hit Kew Junction and then went down Church Street to Bridge Road, and then through Yarra Boulevard and Burnley Park to Swan Street. I then went under the train lines, through Burnley and joined the Yarra Trail just past MacRobertson Bridge. Then it was along the river the whole way to the train overpass just west of Chapel Street, over the bridge and through Darling Gardens.

Overall the run was 10.5kms and I completed it in 56mins06secs. This was about 2 minutes faster than my previous attempt at that course, and at a pace of just over 5.30.
