April 18 - Ivanhoe to South Yarra

I really need to plan ahead a bit better. Tonight on my run home from work, my backpack was distractingly heavy. Normally I have my keys, wallet and phone in there, a small umbrella and a book. Tonight I needed to add my work pants and shirt, as well as a couple of magazines. It was the first time that I really noticed it, and I'll have to be more careful in the future to avoid injuring myself.

That aside I did my usual run home from work, along Heidelberg Road to Fairfield, then cutting past the oval near the boathouse and down past NMIT and Yarra Bend Golf Club. From there it is across the river and past Studley Park Boathouse, straight up the hill to Studley Park Road, down Walmer Street, across the river again coming out near Vic Gardens. Then I wind myself through the streets of Richmond crossing the river once more at Chapel Street and home.

It's not too bad except for the portion through Richmond, where there is a bit of stop/start due to traffic, everything else is away from main roads. A couple of nice hills and a bit of undulation keep me on my toes. All up it's just over 10km's and I ran it in 59 minutes. I felt really good for the first 3-4km's but then became increasingly aware of the heavy backpack, as I adjusted it became easier and I finished really well.
