May 22 - Ivanhoe to South Yarra with an accident!

Tonights run was my medium paced run for the week, and I wasn't looking forward to it due to some pretty heavy showers just as I was about to leave.

I was feeling pretty good as I headed down Heidelberg Road towards Fairfield Park, and got through to Studley Park Road in very good time. The first part of the hill to Studley Park Rd was good, but the second section was fairly muddy and slippery, so I had to walk for this section for safety.

Then as I was heading down Walmer Street towards the Yarra River, catastrophe. I was running on the grassed area between the road and a small wooden fence, and tripped on a 15cm piece of metal protruding from the ground. It was the remnants of a signpost that had been cut down, but the useless council had left it in the ground rather than removing it. Luckily I fell forwards and the ground was reasonably soft due to the rain. A few small scrapes, dirt all over and a tender left big toe which had borne the brunt of the impact.

So I brushed myself off and continued the run home, with the toe only being a minor irritation as it was warmed up. Overall I completed the 11km in 54mins, which with the accident was pretty pleasing.

Now I just have to hope that my toe settles down before Sunday so I can have a good crack at the 10km!
