Sri Chinmoy 10km - Williamstown

I went into the 10k not really sure what to expect. After a bit of a fall on Monday, and no running until race day due to a sore, bruised right foot, I had no idea how I would fare. I haven't run a 10km race prior to this, so taking into account my 8km PB (37.33) and adding about 10mins, I would normally have had a crack at 47mins, but due to a less than ideal prep I would be happy with under 50mins.

A nice and early pick up by EJM (thanks greatly again!) and we arrived in plenty of time. Caught up with Stu, Beki, Rogo and TB prior to the race, and had a good catch up with them.

Race began at 8am and as always I went out way too quick in a 4.07 first km, this led to a very quick first section of the race. My right foot was a bit sore, and I think I put a bit more pressure on the left due to this. After heading out hard early I tried to slide into a regular 4.40 pace and managed this until the last third of the race when the hard pace, and a very tight left leg due to right side injury slowed me down a fraction.

The splits were:

1km - 4.07
2km - 4.17
3km - 4.25
4km - 4.31
5km - 4.42
6km - 4.39
7km - 4.40
8km - 4.44
9km - 4.54
10km - 4.49

Overall time was 45m50s, which I was rapt about and way quicker than I thought I was capable of prior to the day. I just need to work on my pacing and I am certain that I can get under 45m pretty quickly.
