April 28 (AM) - XC Training
Well this morning was a brand new experience for me, taking a group for a training session.As the coach of my girlfriend's cross country team was unavailable this morning, I was asked to fill in. So off to the Tan at 7am and a session with a willing bunch of 8 young ladies.
An easy 500m warm up jog, with bum kicks and high knees thrown in, and then some stretches, and then it was off for the training session.
We did a fartlek around the tan, beginning without a major pace increase just striding out, before working up to 90% intensity and then finishing with a few stride throughs. We even added the missing 200m of the Tan, and completed an even 4km in around 23 minutes.
All the girls stayed in the group, and although there were one or two blowing hard at the end, they all came good very quickly. A couple of pretty talented runners if I do say so as well.
It was good fun, although I don't think that I am someone who would enjoy morning running all that often.
