March 26 - 15km Fun Run

Just returned from the Sri Chinmoy 15km at Burnley, and I have learnt a few things. Well actually I probably already knew them, but it has reinforced to me how important some things are.

Lesson 1 - Water
As I was at the Commonwealth Games athletics last night, I did not have anywhere near enough water. Only drank about 1.5 litres for the day, and I paid for it as the day warmed up.

Lesson 2 - Breakfast
I was running very late this morning, so did not eat anything prior to the run. I felt this over the last 4 kilometres, and really need to ensure I have a banana and some toast prior to running.

Lesson 3 - Technology
As the run began I tried to begin the timer on my watch, and it didn't work. I hadn't read the instructions properly and couldn't get any real idea on my splits.

In reality it was all about an ordinary preparation, but that was the reason for doing this run, to prepare for the Run for Kids on April 9. As long as I rectify my mistakes, that will be a breeze.

The run itself was very well organised, and pancakes and honey are a great way to finish. I began a little quicker than I wanted but then hit a really good pace until about the 10km mark. Then my lack of water and breakfast started to kick in. I struggled a little from there, and didn't have a lot of kick in my legs at the end which was a bit disappointing. I ran 73.33, which was pleasing as I was aiming for under 75.00, but I know that once I get the preparation right I have sub 70's in front of me.
